how old is macbeth? i don’t mean to minimize your worry in any way, but my cats pee A TON A TON. i just figure it’s part of the aging process. most cats have slow kidney failure over time, but if, like you said, this was a sudden change, i can see where you had cause for concern. with onion, i’d rather he pee a lot than not pee at all given his history of urinary blockages. i just did a quick read on kidney failure and they suggest keeping your cat hydrated (hence the subcutaneous injections). have you considered switching to only wet food diet? that’s what i did for onion–he eats a prescription canned food for “bladder health” and i dilute that even further with filtered water. and i have a cat fountain which i don’t think the cats use that much but i was so desperate to do anything to encourage their water intake. all that said, we go through a lot of cat litter in my house. i stand firmly by arm and hammer for clumping and elimination of odors in my small apartment. i just wrote a mini-novel but i just wanted to let you know i’m thinking of you! keep us updated.
@RizzlGrizzl - Yeah, he’s only 7, and the kidney failure has already been diagnosed.
I like the idea of adding water to the food – I might start doing that with him! He’s drinking a lot of water, and the subcutaneous stuff is all well and good, but I just want to keep him as hydrated as possible.
We’re fans of Fresh Step, but honestly when Macbeth is gone and we’re starting over with “new cats” I might try Yesterday’s News just for the green aspect.
I’ll let you know how things go with the lil’ bugger :-
