U-no-poo
What was initially going to be a month-long experiment might, I confess, be significantly shorter.
I recently discovered this awesome article: Info: Shampoo free, and was really stoked to try it. I usually only wash my hair about 3x a week anyway (it’s really fine), so maybe this wouldn’t be too much of a stretch. So, dutifully, instead of reaching for my usual Matrix shampoo, I just gave my hair a good rinse. All night last night I kept running my fingers through my hair and complaining to Jeff how icky it felt. According to today’s plan, I’m supposed to use the baking soda to “wash” it. I have serious doubts about this, but here goes…
(kindly visualize me showering now. And kindly imagine me 10lb slimmer, m’kay?)
I’ll report back shortly.
1/6/08–10:00: OK I made it through the first shower. First impression (my hair is still wet) that it looks a bit cleaner, perhaps, but it still doesn’t *feel* clean…maybe it’s all psychological? I suppose I’ll stick with this for a bit longer just to give it its fair chance. But I’m still trying strongly to resist the urge to hop back in the shower with my Biolage

Has anybody else tried going shampoo-free? Did it work for you?

Okay I really want to try it.
Hey! What’s the problem going shampoo free? I just run a shoeshine cloth across my scalp every few days and it works fine for me!
ryc: no, casey was owned by a previous family. they split and her dog went to the hubs, due to living arrangements. she informed her vet, that my cousin works for, that the dog needed adopted because she spends 16+ hours couped up with out potty breaks or affection. so we picked her up yesterday.
my parents are out of town for the weekend so we had a three pup slumber party. it’s been chaos!!
Ycky. Why not just lick your paw and then swipe your head with it? Works for me!
you’ll have to let me know how it works for you. I have VERY fine hair and usually wash it about 3times a week also. I am not so sure I could do this tho!!!
My sister-in-law tried it, but I think that she stopped doing it after awhile. Good luck and keep us updated!
I used to do the no shampoo-only conditioner thing in high school since my hair is so curly, but it just made it pretty nasty, I think.
Interesting idea, I’m curious to hear how it goes!
I used to add baking soda to my shampoo once a week to get the gunk out of my hair from making my spikes. It was pretty harsh on my hair since it made the shampoo unbalanced pH wise. I faithfully use pert plus deep conditioning 2 in 1. As my hair grows and we move to a drier climate, I’m going to have to go back to both shampoo and conditioner. Good luck trying this!
on average i only wash my hair once a week, but rinse it everyday since my hair is curly…it increases the curl. i haven’t tried baking soda though.
You can’t go shampoo free if you have hard water! Hard Water alone will not clean your hair. You need the chemicals that are in your shampoo to break down the rock in the water to make your water work for you. We have about 7 grains of hardness in our water in the midwest so unless you have a water softner (which are flipping awesome by the way) go back to using your shampoo! Hard water won’t get out all the product you put in your hair either!
